Annotation SARS-CoV-2 virus causing COVID-19 disease in 2020 and 2021 showed us how important is knowledge of microbiology and rapid introduction of right laboratory diagnostic methods. The virus confirms that human beings are influenced of microorganisms on their daily life and confirms the inevitable role of physicians and nurses in savings human lives. The aim of these selected chapters is to inform pregradual students about principles of appropriate collection and transport of specimens for microbiologic examination, and to introduce the techniques used by microbiologists for the detection of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These chapters will provide an overview of the most commonly used techniques for a certain illness and an interpretation of test results. For many diseases these techniques remain the definitive methods to achieve a rapid and correct diagnosis and an appropriate antiinfective therapy and to accomplish the proper prophylactic and anti-epidemic measures. The manual is dedicated to the practical training of selected microbiological methods with consideration of the current trends of clinical microbiology.
