(Dr.A.D. maintains a longtime association with The University of Michigan where he is presently the Nathan Sinai Distinguished Professor of Public Health. Dr.D., who received his M.D. from the American University of Beirut and M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health, taught previously at the American University of Beirut , at the Harvard School of Public Health and at New York Mecial College. Dr.D. was elected a member of The Institute of medicine, National Academy of Sciences in 1971 and an honorary fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators in 1982. He is the author of numerous papers and several books pertinent to the organiyation and administration of personal health care services in general, and quality assessment and monitoring in particular. Books he has written include Aspects of medical care administration: specifying requirements for health care, and Benefits in medical care programs. This is the third volume of his Explorations in quality assessment and monitoring. Volume 1, The definition of quality and approaches to its assessment, was published by Health Administration Press in 1980. Volume 2, The criteria and standards of quality, was published by Health Administration Press in 1982. Dr.Donabedian's previous publications have won the Dean Conley Awad of the American college of Hospital Administrators in 1969, the Norman A. Welch Award of the National Association of Blue Shield Plans in 1976, and the Eliyur Wright Award of the American Risk and Insurance Association in 1978.)
